On The Ultimate Truth

The Truth that we know of is only difficult to find if we don’t know where to look. Philosophers, gurus and cultivators claim that the Truth can be found within us and when we find (or understand) it, we need not look elsewhere or any further. They'll also not hesitate to say that whatever we take to be the Truth belongs to us – i.e. how our mind perceives and interprets it at a certain point of time. Therefore, the definition of any Truth will depend on the levels of our knowledge and where the frontier of our minds' understanding lies. But then again, they’ll be quick to point out that these are contemporary Truths and not ultimate since they are subject to our minds’ capability to change definitions. So what is the Ultimate Truth? They define it as, “The Truth that cannot be changed”. If so, then the right answer should be “Nothing”, because no Truth can be ultimate as long as the mind is involved in giving it a definition and a label (name), or that it even has a definition and a label. All so called "Truths" are created by the mind, for the mind.

Thus, we enter the realm of “suchness” …

Since the day we were born, we have always been searching for that seemingly elusive dream - to be happy.

Most people think that if they can get what they want they will be happy. In fact many of us in the different stages of our lives do manage to get what we want. When we were young we want a toy, we got it. When we were a teenager, we want a bicycle, we got it. Then we want a degree, we got it. We want a girl/boy friend, we got her/him. We want a car, we got it. We want a spouse, we got it. We want a family, we got it. We want money, we got it. we want to be famous, we are ! But do we finally become happy each time we get what we want? No! We want more! New goals to achieve - never stopping, always searching for the next thing to be achieved.

Now I'm not saying that all these things that we achieved are bad. But is that what we really want? How do we know what we really want? Most of us tend to look out led by our senses, the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, touch & mind always seeking outwards, forgetting that the answer is in the opposite direction - within us. Who we are! Because, until and unless we know who we really are, we will never really know what we really want and how can we really be happy in that state?

If we don't know who we really are, there will always be a 'hole' or 'gap' inside us which explains why majority of the people in the world are lost, fearful, confused and hateful.

It is interesting to note that the very people who were forced to dig for diamonds in Africa HAVE NEVER SEEN a real polished diamond! Yes, we constantly dig for diamonds outside but we fail to discover the real diamond within us.

Remember the wisdom that Socrates shared with us:- "Know Thyself"!

May you discover who you really are and the Ultimate Truth.
